Corfu Ioannis Kapodistrias Airport (IATA Code: CFU), is the airport that serves the beautiful green island of Corfu, part of the Ionian archipelago. It is located less than 2 kilometers from the island’s capital, also called Corfu or Kerkyra. It was opened in 1937 and used during the Second World War, but international civil flights were started only in 1965.
Today the Corfu airport sees about 3 million passengers a year, and belongs to the German company Fraport, which exclusive management until 2057.
The airport has two terminals, a control tower and an asphalt runway, 2,375 m long and 45 m wide.
Kapodistrias airport in winter sees only domestic flights, in particular to and from Athens, Preveza / Lefkada and Thessaloniki, operated by Astra Airlines, Olympic Air and SkyExpress. But from spring to autumn the airport is used by a series of charter, low cost and scheduled airlines that guarantee connections to and from cities throughout Europe.
