
It is a long, secluded sandy beach located near the village of Agios Matheos on the southern side of the island of Corfu.
Halikounas is a sandy expanse with coarse, heavy sand and sand dunes. The sand does not dirty the water, leaving it crystal clear. The beach is marked with a Blue Flag proudly presented on the golden sand.
This wild beach is a true uncontaminated Eden of the Greek land. You can walk for hours and not meet anyone while enjoying the clean air and warm waves.
Going south you pass the tip and arrive at Issos beach.
Issos and Halokounas are kilometers long beaches that embrace and defend the Korission lagoon from the Mediterranean sea.
A bit of wave sport. Thanks to the particular shape of the coast and the winds such as the Meltemi (Greek: μελτÎμι, Turkish: meltem) which is a periodic, dry and quite cool wind, which offers a stiff breeze and strong winds, it is a paradise for kitesurfing and windsurfing.
Between the end of May and the end of October, it blows intensely over the Aegean Sea, calming down in the evening. However, it may happen that it lasts uninterruptedly for 5/6 days in a row.
